Gideon Putnam (’24) high-fives his varsity boys baseball teammates after a successful run May 27. Putnam said the game against the International School of Brussels went well in a game that they won 17-3.
“We did an excellent job of swinging at pitches we were supposed to,” Putnam said. “Just a really overall good performance.”

Varsity sports teams compete in ISSTs
Varsity tennis, baseball, track and field and softball attend ISSTs, securing top honors with numerous victories. The event spanned May 22-31 as athletes competed against other schools to be crowned as ISST winners.

Elena Alexander, Sports Editor: Print
Elena Alexander (’23) is Sports Editor: Print of The Standard. Having attended ASL since Grade 5, Alexander began journalism in Grade 10 and was the Features Editor: Online in Grade 11. Alexander appreciates journalism for community involvement and understanding and representing different perspectives. Alexander also participates in Model UN and the Student Council. Outside of the publication, Alexander is the varsity girls’ volleyball captain and participates in track and field.
Rudi Chamria, Deputy Editor-in-Chief: Online
Rudi Chamria (’24) is the Deputy Editor-in-Chief: Online of The Standard. She joined the newspaper in Grade 9 as a staff writer because she enjoys connecting with people through interviewing and utilizing her platform to highlight underrepresented voices. In addition to her role on The Standard, Chamria leads the Social Justice Council, plays tennis and engages in community service.
Vittoria Di Meo, Sports Editor: Online
Vittoria Di Meo (’24) is the Sports Editor: Online for The Standard and this is her fourth year in the publication. Di Meo started writing for the Middle School newspaper, The Scroll in Grade 8 and soon found an instant attraction to journalism. Di Meo loves writing and is excited by the opportunity to shine light on current events. Outside of The Standard Di Meo has tried out all kinds of sports but has discovered she mostly enjoys running by herself to listen to music and challenge limits.
Nassef Sawiris, Lead Sports Editor
Nassef Sawiris (’25) is the Lead Sports Editor for The Standard, and this is his third year in the publication. Sawiris began his journalism career 5 years ago on the Middle School newspaper, The Scroll. His love for writing covers various topics with the common goal of arguing his opinion and educating the community on issues he feels passionate about. He continues to actively participate in other extracurricular activities such as his role on the varsity soccer team along with his leadership position in the Investment Club.
Ellie Taylor, Social Media Manager
Ellie Taylor (‘23) is the Social Media Manager for The Standard. After working for the paper in Grade 9, she rejoined this year because she enjoys thinking about world problems and exploring others’ opinions. As well as being a passionate opinion writer, Taylor plays softball and stars in school musicals. Outside of school, Taylor enjoys practicing and learning the history of art.
Spencer Towfighi, Lead Sports Editor
SSpencer Towfighi (’23) is the Lead Sports Editor for The Standard. Towfighi is entering his second year as an editor, and he enjoys writing sports features and articles regarding social justice issues in sports. Outside of The Standard, he spends his time playing football and tennis, working on the Social Justice Council and spending time with his friends.
