STUDENT COUNCIL PRESIDENT

Now that Winter Formal is finished, we’re moving on as a Student Council to new, important work. Currently, we have Council members independently working on a number of initiatives to make the school better. Within the council, one of the things I want to encourage the most is representatives independently pursuing work that they feel strongly about.

A suggestion that the library obtain lendable cellphone chargers, made by Clement Gelly (’13), is in the process of becoming a reality, thanks to Tarek Masri (’13), as we may be able to expect chargers by 2013. Celia Mitchell (’15) and Elizabeth Robertson (’14) are currently working to help increase the school’s supply of kleenex in order to deal with an influx of sick students. Adam Koren (’14) has met with the administration and is trying to set up a way for tired students to be comfortable in school.

These initiatives cover a very wide range. Millie Goldrup (’14) is passionate about holding a ugly Christmas sweater day that will occur on Wednesday December 19, the last day of school before break. The freshmen Student Council members are making plans to host a free ice-cream social for grade. On the topic of frozen treats, the frozen yogurt machine, sought by Mitchell, is close to being confirmed as having a place in the cafeteria next school year. I am really proud of the work Student Council representatives have done so far, and their initiative when seeking new ventures to pursue for the school, whether it’s an activity or an issue that requires a solution.

Other council members are doing work as well. They’re helping with these initiatives as well as others, such as our ongoing talks with Quinton Kynaston to set up a joint activity at some point next year. Other ongoing works include a move to receive student feedback on the implemented course feedback program which we keep seeking to implement successfully and improve.

Needless to say, we’re keeping ourselves quite busy at Student Council this year. We’re hoping to finish as much as possible before break comes. It’s been a solid first semester, and I’m personally looking forward to what my Council members will come up for the next.
