Grade 12 students celebrate finishing high school

Grade 12 students celebrate finishing high school at Senior Sunset June 9. Sunset takes place annually at Primrose Hill as a counterpart to Senior Sunrise, which occurs at the beginning of the year. Most students wore university merchandise or their red Seniors 2022 shirts in commemoration of the event.

Juliana Menegakis (’22) said even though the weather was cloudy and attendance low, the experience was enjoyable.

Students and faculty engage in the annual Human Ri

Students and faculty engage in the annual Human Rights Symposium June 8. After conducting research and writing an analytical paper, students enrolled in the Human Rights Seminar course each presented a workshop centered around the overarching theme of “Tipping the Scales,” which explored violations in Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights – outlining life, liberty and security of a person – with the rise of extremism.

Sam Hamilton (’23), a participant of “It’s Just a Game,” said the workshop centered around a “really new, nuanced and fascinating topic.”

Students enrolled in the Advanced Independent Rese

Students enrolled in the Advanced Independent Research Colloquium course share the findings of their research projects after school in the Learning Commons June 7. During the first semester of the course, students engaged in research around a topic of their choice. They then conducted experiments and collected data in the second semester to ultimately create a poster or video and accompanying presentation communicating their conclusions.

Maxine Wadsworth (’22) said her study evaluated the extent to which nutrition influences teenage cognitive function. She said she appreciated engaging with the community about the work she conducted throughout the year.

“Today is rewarding because you get to present to everyone,” she said. “It’s cool hearing everyone’s feedback and getting to talk to teachers specifically about the project.” • Photos and reporting by Grace Hamilton

Students decorate cupcakes in the cafeteria during the Community Action Cupcake Celebration May 27. The celebration was open to all High School students who participated in community action this year, including Community Partnerships, Community Volunteer Day, youngPOWER, Homework Buddies and West London Model UN. Students decorated cupcakes for themselves as well as for a child from the partnership they participated in.

Nikolai Kovach (’24), who participated in the PACE community partnership, said it was a great opportunity to interact with the local community.

Grade 12 students play volleyball in the Farmer Gy

Grade 12 students play volleyball in the Farmer Gym at the Senior Lock-In May 27. The Lock-In, which was canceled in previous years due to COVID-19 restrictions, included sports, a laser tag tournament and movie screenings. The event began at 6:30 p.m., with students given the option to leave at either midnight or 6 a.m.

Priya Shah (’22) said she is glad the Senior Lock-In took place this year as it allowed her to socialize with other students.

“I feel like our entire class was pretty sad that it didn't happen last year, and we were looking forward to it,” she said. “Being able to roam around a certain part of the school for the night and have fun with our class was a really good experience.” • Photo by Isabel Link and reporting by Sophia Bassi
