Guest Submission Policy
In addition to staff-written content, The Standard encourages members of the school community to submit letters to the editor, comments, and guest writer pieces to the staff. These must adhere to the same set of ethical guidelines that all staff content is held to and will only be published at the discretion of the editorial board and the adviser. The Standard retains the right to edit stories for length and AP/Standard style, though without modifying in any way the writer’s intent. We reserve the right to refuse publication of content for legal and ethical reasons. All submissions must adhere to the following guidelines and will be rejected if:
- The submission attacks a named or identified person or group unreasonably.
- The submission makes readers unreasonably uncomfortable on the basis of one’s race, gender, religion, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation or otherwise.
- The submission attacks personally any member of the school community.
- The submission is obscene or contains sexual explicitness.
- It is determined that the submission is made under a false name or uses another person’s name or email address.
- The submission threatens or encourages violence.
- The submission encourages illegal behavior.
- The submission violates copyright or privacy protections.
