What do you love about cross country?
Victor: “It really is the team, because cross country isn’t as competitive when it comes to team performance. It is more about racing for you and that makes it so everybody can encourage everyone to keep going.”
What are your goals as captain?
Victor: “I hope to help encourage the team to do their best and win ISSTS. I also hope to help the freshman and new students this year to integrate into the team and feel like they're part of the team.”

What do you love about cross country?
Sadrian: “The adrenaline is a big part, and I've been doing it since I was young.”
What are your goals as captain?
Sadrian: “Right now, I'm paying attention to training and warmups. There's a time to have a fun time and to lock in. Right now, it's our time to focus.”

What do you love about cross country?
Tiller: “My favorite thing about running is when you know that you're working hard and get to see your hard work paying off in races. Also, I think the team is really motivating because they make you want to be better.”
What are your goals as captain?
Tiller: “We're a really strong team and we've come a long way this season. At the beginning, my goal was to make sure that everyone on the team felt like they had a place because we had a lot of newcomers.”

What do you love about cross country?
Cerrell: “Cross country is a sport that if you put in the work, then you'll see the results. Also having that consistency in your training and that consistency in your performance is a really big driving factor because you know that every single day that you're pushing is a day that's going to pay off in the race.”
What are your goals as captain?
Cerell: “One of the goals that I have for the team is making sure that everyone feels welcome because there are a lot of new freshmen. I think that everyone's voices need to be heard, so making sure people don’t feel like the captains are the only leaders.”

What do you love about volleyball?
Khan: “My favorite thing about volleyball is the community I have and the friends that I'm able to make through it. When I was first new to ASL, I made all of my friends through volleyball. Because of COVID, everything else was shut down. I was thrown into the volleyball community and met all my best friends through the sport.”
What are your goals as captain?
Khan: “My goals as a captain this year are to really strengthen the team's mentality, and I think physical strength can always be improved.”

Rachel Furst (’24) - Co-Captain of Varsity Girls Volleyball
What do you love about volleyball?
Furst: “The team. I love our team, and it's [felt] like we've had the same team for a long time.”
What are your goals as captain?
Furst: “I want to make everyone feel really included since that's not always been the case. I remember being younger on the team and it can be really scary. So I think for the most part, my main goal is keeping the team really tight and inclusive.”

What do you love about volleyball?
Yan: “My favorite thing about volleyball is seeing the team come together. That’s one of the best feelings, having played the sport for a while.”
What are your goals as captain?
Yan: “My goals as a captain is to have the team bond as much as they can, to ensure leadership, and to maintain the team's dynamic suite.”

What do you love about soccer?
Kim: “I have been playing since I was around 3 or 4 and it has always been a really integral part of my life. As I have grown up, I have played in many teams and it has been a way for me to relieve stress, have fun and interact with new people.”
What are your goals as captain?
Kim: “I want to foster a good team spirit and collaborative community. I think my goals have been more centered around team bonding and making sure everyone is having fun.”

What do you love about soccer?
Hogan: “My favorite thing about soccer is probably the team atmosphere. Being able to get to know your teammates and build a bond is really special and I think that can really only be emulated through sport.”
What are your goals as captain?
Hogan: “I want to work on creating an environment where everyone feels like equals and can have a really great time and can build connections.”

What do you love about soccer?
Burlingame: “The team is really amazing. It is a community where everyone builds each other up and supports each other.”
What are your goals as captain?
Burlingame: “I want everyone to feel comfortable and happy. I want to be the captain who people would come and talk to you when they're feeling worried about something else.”

Sawan: “I love being able to get my mind off of school and play with my friends.”

Sawan: “My goals as the captain are to lead my team to win ISSTs, to foster positive team spirits and to be someone that my teammates can turn to in a time where they need a friend.”

What do you love about field hockey?
Potchatek: “I love field hockey because of the team aspect. I’m friends with all the players outside of the team. I love all of them.”

Potchatek: “My goal as captain is to make everyone feel like they are part of the team and make sure they're having fun because ultimately doing a sport should be fun and stress-free.”
