Students engage in alternative activities across London
Students participated in several alternative activities across London Jan. 26. The activities, in preparation for alternative trips to be held Mar. 28-31, took place after an early dismissal.
Students in the “A Shepherd’s Life” alternative read “The Shepherd’s Life” by James Rebanks Jan. 26, which was the inspiration for the trip. In March, students on the alternative will partake in activities involving sheep.
Daniel de Beer (’23) is the Deputy Editor-in-Chief: Online of The Standard. Having grown up in Brazil and lived in four different countries, de Beer is a citizen of the world. De Beer began his journalistic career in Grade 9, when he joined The Standard as a Staff Writer. His hobbies include playing backgammon, swimming, and competitive chair spinning.
Grace Hamilton (’23) is the Editor-in-Chief of The Standard. Her love for writing stemmed into a passion for journalism, and she became involved with The Standard in Grade 9. Journalism provides her a powerful platform to inform the ASL community and learn more about local and global perspectives, issues and events. Outside of journalism, Hamilton leads the Sustainability Council, writes creatively and sails competitively.
Jaden Gardiola (’25) is the Culture Editor: Online for The Standard. He was initially drawn to journalism as a different approach to language arts, while also being passionate about film and filmmaking. Gardiola is keen to use multimedia to tell stories in a unique way. A San Francisco Bay Area native, Gardiola also takes part in soccer and Student Council, and is an avid fan of football and basketball.
Gabrielle Meidar (’23) is the Deputy Editor-in-Chief: Print of The Standard. Her journalism career kickstarted in the Middle School newspaper, The Scroll. Since, she has served as the News Editor: Print and Lead News Editor for The Standard. She has been featured in the Jewish Chronicle and predominantely writes about topics that are stigmatized.
Sophia Bateman (’25) is the Lead Features Editor for The Standard. She joined the newspaper as a staff writer in Grade 9 because she admired collaboration among the staff and wanted a platform to express her voice. Outside of journalism, Bateman leads the Student Ambassador program and enjoys computer science.
